Case 4 - Private Residence, MA |

Date & Time: April 2009, 6:00 pm - 12:10 am Weather: Cold with a minor breeze
The two owners, referred to by random initials to protect their identities, were present. Historical Profile: The home was built in 1910 in a close neighborhood. It has remained in the same family, aside from a few years around 1938, for the entire time. Two families lived there at one time but now it is inhabited by one family. Both grandmothers have lived upstairs at different times. The owners claim to have seen apparitions, shadows, mist, heard unexplained noises, other bangs, cold spots, and moving objects. There are footsteps, totally unexplained, shadows in the kitchen, and possibly scratches on "K"s body during the night. Their pets have followed movement with their eyes, which we have found to be the case with many animals in apparently haunted locations. They suffer from chest heaviness, sick feelings, and discomfort in general. The stove has turned on by itself. The furnace thermostat goes up or down by itself. The TV speakers are separate from the unit and have been tossed off the back of the TV. The speakers recently broke the window blinds. In the bottom bedroom "K" has seen a "shadow person" watching them from a corner of the room; many times. "S" has seen and felt someone standing alongside the bed. This occurs while the couple is actually in bed. The stairway to the second floor has apparent activity, with some of it going back years. From this general location pillows have been thrown. Someone/something has stood at the top of the stairs, watching. The cellar doorway has a black shadow that appears there, somewhat routinely. It has been seen going down into the basement by various family members. The owners do not want to go down there. It is not only at night that a presence is felt. It can happen during the day as well. Both the upstairs and downstairs bathrooms have a fair amount of unexplained activity and noise.
Investigation: After the initial EMF sweeps and "building inspection" we took a few pictures downstairs before heading upstairs to the center room, which was once a kitchen. It is now the hallway with a comfortable couch and small furnishings for the children in the house, who were not present during the investigation. We remained very quiet up there for nearly 20 minutes. A flashlight was placed in the doorway of one of the bedrooms. It was not turned on. A few questions were asked and at one point the light turned on by itself, as if in response. That was about 7:00 pm. From that time until about 9:30 pm the activity upstairs never really stopped. Many, many times the flashlight went on and off depending on our questions. When we asked for it to shine very bright, it almost always did. When we asked for it to shut off, it did. There was no fear or uncomfortable feelings. It was more like a visit from someone who really wanted to communicate. Over an hour passed before one of the owners came upstairs and asked to join us. Activity changed at that point, becoming active in a much different way. Through a series of questions we feel reasonably certain that if a spirit were indeed present it was the owner's grandmother, who presented in the form of the ectoplasm you see in the pictures. This was very emotional, yet joyous, for the granddaughter. She felt unusual but distinct cold spots. She said she could feel her arms, back, neck and body being touched in the places corresponding with the green ectoplasm on the camera images. Aloud, she was sharing happy memories, not so much with the investigators but with the entity that she felt was there with us. And then, after all that time, the flashlight stopped communicating and the feelings went away. We were mildly surprised that it had lasted so long and we feel privileged to have been a part of it. There is a long, generational history of apparent paranormal activity in the house as well as in the backyard. The owners have also experienced a dark shadow watching them on the flat roof in the back of the house. Since our clients had reported seeing dark shadows moving around out back we took the exterior picture you see which revealed something akin to a glow along the edges. Moving around on the open roof of the second floor, high EMF readings were detected there and everywhere; literally everywhere. The house was inspected a year ago and passed inspection because there was nothing wrong. We could find nothing to indicate any type of electrical trouble in the house. It did not matter where we went during the initial sweep for EMF meter readings. It was peaking almost constantly, everywhere. The readings were so high in all places that we decided not to use the meter until later in the evening, in the bedroom. We have considered something suspicious might be under the ground but there is no way of knowing for sure. And if that were the case, why were the EMF readings so exceptionally high on the open roof, up and down the stairs, in every corner, at every height? While we were there, we heard a number of bangs which we could find no reason for, upstairs and downstairs. The owner's cats were basically with us for most of the night so we know it wasn't them. The Conscious Spirit tries to include an animal in every investigation due to their unique perception of things around them. Later, after an overdue break in which we took outside camera shots; we went to the bottom bedroom where the owners have experienced what can only be described as nefarious feelings and behavior. Sitting on the bed the owner was being pinched, touched and felt the heaviness of a presence. Two of the investigators felt heaviness in the same spot by the door. The owner became ill and had to leave the room. We decided at that point to end the investigation. She just couldn't take it anymore.
Evidence: The impressive and highly unusual pictures you see with this report are strong evidence. We looked at these pictures within the camera as the activity was happening. We showed them to the client/owner, while there, who verified the uncomfortable feelings corresponding to the places shown on her body. Other cameras in the room were unable to pick up anything questionable during the same time. We also filmed the flashlight sequence.
Conclusion: We have recommended that the clock radio be moved away from the bed downstairs. It is known that sensitive people may have problems with this type of electrical energy so close to their bodies. We spend about a third of our lives in bed so this is potentially a lot of unnecessary exposure. Once again, there was nothing wrong with the electrical system that we could discover. There are just some locations that have unusual activity that cannot reasonably be explained. Aside from the welcome interaction upstairs, we feel that if a paranormal presence is there, one of the owners is the target of some unwanted attention, especially downstairs. There does indeed seem to be spirits occupying this house. We have been invited back to this location to conduct a second paranormal investigation. We will do that later this year.
