Case 3 - Private Residence, New England |

Date & Time: April 2009, 7:00 pm- 11:00 pm Weather: raining
Historical Profile: The home in question is about 120 years old and has seen many residents over the years, including a father and his two grown daughters. Many architectural changes have taken place over time such as new bathrooms, closets, walls, etc. In the early days it would have had a lot of foot traffic because boarders lived here. The owner claims to have seen a lot of possible paranormal activity over the years. She articulated that she has seen someone/something walking by her bedroom on some nights. She lives alone. She is certain that something has sat on her bed as she lay there, more than once. She felt strongly that her own deceased relatives may be making appearances to visit her, raising questions as to where the activity is actually coming from. Her mother used a particular perfume that she states she can smell on occasion. Her grandmother also had a scent specific to her and she can sometimes smell that too. She hears sounds emitting from the kitchen in the evening and occasionally has an item move from the spot she knew she left it in. The bathroom is occasionally a source of sound which she cannot track down to a reasonable source. The living room is a place of unique activity according to the owner. She is quite sure spectral activity takes place there and admits to seeing distinctive lights and shadowy movement on occasion. We ruled out mice and so did the owner's cat. The owner has described herself as having possible psychic tendencies. For this reason we question whether activity is focused around her or more a part of the house.
Investigation: While we were there the owner smelled a vague raspberry scent while sitting on the couch in the living room. We could find no reason for that. The investigators did not smell it. After lying quietly on the same table for nearly an hour, the EMF meter suddenly registered high activity. It stopped after a couple of minutes and did not return. This is unexplained. We were able to hear soft taps here and there but could not seem to pinpoint a source. Background noise was unfortunately out of our control and could have contributed to this sound. We carefully monitored every spot, every corner of the house in our attempts to obtain evidence. We welcomed any possible spirits to communicate with us. Of note was the owner's cat. We have never had a pet take this much interest in what we were doing. She was intent during the whole investigation and never once lost interest.
Evidence: Recorders are always turned on in various places but because of the background noise mentioned we must consider any audio to be contaminated. Upon reviewing our images we noticed a few anomalies; a yellow orb showed up on Terri's digital camera. We could not see it at the time it was taken. It was about a foot off the floor in the parlor. This is the most unique orb we have ever seen. This orb vaguely appears to have a woman's face in it which we must admit resembled the picture of the owner's mother. A slight mist may have been forming in the hallway, noted in a picture taken at 10:15 pm. It was not dust. We can also see a reddish image in the center of the floor. There was nothing on the floor that we could see with our eyes so we cannot explain this reddish orb. We examined the rug and attempted to duplicate the image but were unable to. The rug actually has more of a dark terracotta color to it than appears in the pictures.
Terri took this picture from the kitchen. This yellow orb appears to have a face in it. It was floating about a foot off the living room floor. It could not be seen at the time. It is very small in the original picture.
Conclusion: The owner has a strong belief that her place is haunted. She has no fear whatsoever and in fact welcomes this possibility. This case remains open.
The owner's cat took an active role in the investigation. She never lost interest.
2010 update: Still maintaining contact with this client, we have discovered that the strange activity continues along with the periodic appearance of purplish orbs in the room next to the owner's bedroom. She sees swirls of dancing lights at night and hears mild tapping sounds and other movement that she cannot explain. Repeat visits have produced no further evidence for our team. |
